Zero Tariff Expansion Accelerates China-Africa Trade: WELLCAMP Celebrates Official Implementation of GAC Announcement No. 54

On May 1, 2026, China zero tariff for Africa expanded once again.

What Happened

China Customs Announcement No. 54 of 2026 officially took effect. Goods originating from 20 African countries—including Algeria, Egypt, South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Morocco, Ghana—now benefit from zero-tariff preferential treatment when imported into China, effective through April 30, 2028.

The Bigger Picture

This is not the first opening. In December 2024, China extended 100% tariff elimination to all least developed countries with diplomatic ties, including 33 African nations. Announcement No. 54 marks a significant step forward: China-Africa zero tariff coverage now reaches beyond LDCs to more African diplomatic partners, further widening the channel for African products entering the Chinese market.

WELLCAMP extends congratulations to all 20 African nations under China zero-tariff policy.

What This Means for Trade

South African wine exportsKenyan avocadosIvorian cocoa, Tunisian olive oil, Ghanaian cashew nuts—these African agricultural products are reaching Chinese consumers at lower trade costs. Importers benefit from reduced procurement expenses. Households gain richer choices. The dividends flow both ways.

Supporting Infrastructure: Faster Customs

At a time when global trade fragmentation risks intensify, China's successive zero-tariff measures send an unmistakable signal: the door continues to open wider. China-Africa trade cooperation is moving from broad inclusion to deeper integration. The newly activated electronic certificate of origin system further reduces customs clearance time, cuts cold chain losses, and ensures policy benefits translate into real-world speed.
