How to connect shipping container houses?

2026-06-15

Connecting multiple shipping containers is a key process in creating larger functional spaces such as villas, office buildings, or commercial modular units. The connection method must be selected based on structural requirements, intended use, and installation conditions. In modular construction practice, three main professional solutions are commonly applied.

  • Solution A: Bolted connection

This is one of the most widely used methods in export projects. It requires no large-scale on-site welding, making it suitable for fast installation and future relocation. High-strength bridge fittings or specialized tension bolts are used to lock adjacent containers through pre-designed corner casting holes. This method ensures a stable structural connection while maintaining the advantage of easy disassembly.

  • Solution B: Welding connection

For projects requiring maximum rigidity and long-term fixed installation, welding is used to join the top and bottom beams of adjacent containers. After welding, all joints are ground smooth and treated with anti-rust coating to improve corrosion resistance and ensure long-term structural durability under different environmental conditions.

  • Solution C: Interior space integration

To create larger continuous interior spaces, partition walls between adjacent containers can be removed. The openings are reinforced using connectors and sealed with sealing strips. At the bottom beam joints, T-shaped aluminum alloy press strips are applied to cover gaps, ensuring a clean transition and improved interior finish quality.
